Effect of nano precipitated calcium carbonate on the properties of hydrogels prepared with acrylamide, starch, and TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose

A variety of water-retaining hydrogels possessing macroporous interiors resembling a honeycomb framework were developed by free radical polymerization acrylamide (AM), starch, and TEMPO-oxidized nanofibrillated cellulose (TONFC) (Poly (AM-co-TONFC/Starch) (PATS) hydrogels). With the help ultrasound, nano precipitated calcium carbonate (NPCC) was gelatinized in preformed NPCC suspension monomer solution that forms hydrogel. When dispersed water, its surface positively charged, could be used as condensation center to form hydrogen bonds with AM, TONFC, shortening distance between increasing pore size, thinning wall. The uniform dispersion also promote more degree cross-linking hydrogels. extruded deformed external forces, stress uniform, so they withstand forces without collapsing. 4% added (relative starch TONFC), size PATS2 hydrogel uniformly distributed range 10 20 μm. maximum tensile strength reached 84.8 KPa, elongation at break 399%. water absorption 172.3, 65% content maintained after 720 h.
